‘Cutting the Red Tape’:

The UK government released new planning regulations at the end of 2023. People who feared lengthy waiting delays, and costly planning systems have been impressed by recent developments.

Those who previously invested in solar could be waiting up to 8 weeks for the project to go through a planning system. With this came extra costs as well as making this renewable step far more stressful.

Under new legislation, changes in development rights make it far easier for homes and businesses to switch to a renewable solar energy source.

This is in line with the continued efforts to try and encourage more people to install solar on their property. Leading to the slashing in energy bill prices and of course the cut down of harmful and excessive emissions.

Additionally previous rules regarding permission being needed for businesses if panels generate more than one Megawatt of electricity, is also being changed.

Businesses can now install more solar panels on their roof without delays or the ongoing battle with planning permission.

Official Statements:

Lee Rowley, the Housing and Planning Minster and MP stated ‘By cutting red tape in the planning system we can make sure homeowners and businesses can install solar panels without being held up by costly delays’. These are strong efforts from the government to try and meet the British Energy Security Strategy Net 0 ambitions by 2050.

These values are echoed by Energy Security and Net Zero Minister Graham Stuart. He too highlights the previous restrictions as being damaging. He stated the 2035 target of 70GW of solar panel will be met through the removal of the 1MW restriction on industrial rooftops.

Moreover, Stuart argues how it will also positively support hundreds of skilled long-term jobs for people. These new changes have economic benefits, environmental benefits, as well as immediate employment benefits becoming available to many.
