Solar Energy Appreciation Day falls on the second Friday of March. In 2024 this means that the 11th of March is the day to appreciate all things solar.

Below is information about this day and different forms of solar energy; as well as why is it important that we have a day to appreciate the beneficial impacts that solar has had on our climate and environment.

What Does Solar Energy Appreciation Mean?

This is a day to specialise and greater understand the impact of solar technology. There are many branches to the solar field which is why its industry is so vast.

Have a read of our previous blog ‘How has the Energy Landscape Changed over the last 10 years due to Solar Power’ to further expand your knowledge on this booming industry sector.

The day is given to further appreciate the positive impacts this renewable energy has on our planet. It is also a chance to educate ourselves on what more can be done within the solar sphere to help our climate.

On this day companies, individuals, and the government come to recognise the efforts of solar panel creators, distributors, wholesalers, suppliers, and consumers. Everyone has their part to play in decreasing fossil fuel emissions, and this is a day to further recognise those efforts.

Types of Solar to Understand

This day sheds light onto the hidden, or less mainstream side of the solar industry. When people think of solar energy, they tend to think of their own house and energy sources, or perhaps some companies that too use solar energy. However, solar is used in many aspects of society that people may not be aware of. This includes Agriculture.

Agrivoltaic is the use of solar power within agriculture. This involves the incorporation of solar panels within the land that produces crops. This innovative idea has had huge weight behind it as it improves the efficiency of the land, whilst decreasing environmental issues.

How Solar helps Agriculture

Solar panels can be used in a variety of different ways to help agriculture. However, one of the most popular ones would be shading crops with solar panels. This helps to improve the yield that protected crops produce by sheltering them from wind and rain, as well as reducing their temperature and water evaporation.

Furthermore, another innovative idea that should be highlighted on Solar Appreciation Day includes sharing with your community. Through a common solar panel set up within the community garden, electricity can be shared. This is one of the most successful clean energy visions that people have started to follow. People even plant crops around the panels to create a miniature Agrivoltaic system!

We hope you’ve gained something about solar panels and its industry that has expanded your view on renewable energy! Make sure to read our other blogs all solar-related. There is plenty on the solar industry, its growth, and its potential!
