With solar being such a booming industry, the ongoing projects across 2024 are vast. Renewable Energy World highlights a projection showing solar to be the leading renewable energy resource by 2028 with a cumulative total of 375 GWdc. In 2028, this would have tripled the size of solar energy production from 2023. Below are some of the largest, and most expensive solar energy projects that are set to begin or be completed in 2024.
Oak Run Solar Project
This project is in Ohio and has a generating capacity of up to 800MW. This will all be clean and renewable electricity production with the inclusion of a BESS. This stands for Battery Energy Storage System with up to 300MW. Starting earlier last month, the estimated cost of this project will be around 788 million pounds.
Cleve Hill Solar Park
Construction began in April 2023, and this project is set to be completed this year. This is a project based in Kent and contains 373MW of solar. This includes over 880,000 solar panels as well as battery storage systems. This 450-million-pound solar park was a joint project between Hive Energy in 2020 and now has since been overtaken by Quinbrook in 2021.
Cleve Hill is the first solar project within the UK to be classed under the NSIP. This stands for the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project. This is due to its vast scale, as it is hoped that the electricity from this solar farm can generate power for over 100,000 homes.
Co-founder of Quinbrook Mr Rory Quinlan has commented on the pressing issue to increase solar power in his statement. He said, “High energy prices, geopolitical instability, and the UK’s ambitious net zero goals are bringing into focus the critical need to accelerate the building of the next generation of energy transition infrastructure in the UK.”
Gemini Solar Project
This solar project is in Nevada and will have a significant and impressive boost across 2024. This will lead it to be one of the largest and most anticipated solar facilities across the USA. The Business Insider reported that this new solar farm boost could drive in over double the renewable electricity generated across America this year.
This is why 2024 is such a big space for solar energy. This is due to solar farm results being long awaited in the hope to reap the rewards of their energy production efforts. Thus, reduce carbon emissions, the reliance on fossil fuels, and the harm this causes to our climate.
These projects demonstrate the huge amount of time and money that is going into the solar industry. This is due to its success rate in decreasing fossil fuel emissions and being a renewable resource. Sunvolt hopes individuals, as well as companies, realise how solar should be a necessity to protect future generations.
